Theodore and Donna Kinni have written 11 business books. They are co-authors of 1,001 Ways to Keep Customers Coming Back and Ayn Rand and Business, as well as ghostwriters of books for consultants, speakers, and Fortune 500 companies, including Be Our Guest  for the Disney Company. Their books have explored subjects ranging from leadership, marketing and sales, and strategy to customer service, manufacturing, and idea generation. The business success lessons in this book have been battle-tested...literally!

Much of modern business management theory and leadership philosophy was born out of battlefield necessity during actual military campaigns of the 20th Century. Even common business language such as strategy, tactics, mission, operations and resources were co-opted from the armed forces, which show relevant parallels between the needs of business and actual battle. In the book titled - "There's No Substitute for Victory" - author Donna Kinni explores the life and leadership practices of Gen. Douglas MacArthur - arguably one of the greatest leaders the U.S. has ever had. His more than 60 years of service went far beyond his military career into education, public administration, consultancy and business. According to Kinni, MacArthur was one of only five, five-star generals in the history of the U.S. Army and his principled-based leadership style was revolutionary. Soundview recommends this book because some of MacArthur's driving principles were the value of the individual within the context of a team; the need to respond quickly; lean organization; esprit de corps; and a relentless focus on results. Regardless of how you feel about war and conflict, these ideals all sought to resolve disputes quickly with minimal losses and maximum outcomes. These lessons are battle-tested (literally) and can be used by virtually anyone and any organization. Don't engage your enemy without it!

He Came Back

I am a bit of a World War Two history buff so of course I have read a number of books about the involvement in any number of campaigns that MacArthur was involved in. That is why I was excited to read this book. I had always heard that MacArthur was considered a great leader and here is the book that tells you exactly why he was considered as such. MacArthur was one of our nation's preeminent military leaders with a career that has rarely been equaled. Not only was he in the military for want was almost his full life, but his military accomplishments stand out as one of the most accomplished in the U.S. military history.

This book covers the basic principals that made MacArthur not only a great military leader, but as a leader overall. The authors tell us that there were three founding components of successful long term leadership. They are values, vision and proficiency. They argue that great leadership is first and foremost moral leadership. Values guide us in our actions and the authors tells us that many of the scandals he hear about on the news are when leaders put aside the morals of the situation.

Overall the book describes many of the skills and talents required of leaders. The authors detail why each of the skills are important and how MacArthur developed and used them. The book is interesting and at times exciting. Given I also have an interested in his military career the book was doubly interesting. You will not be disappointed.

Jamie Cross, a graphic designer that has been working in the field for nearly 25 years, is currently a partner at Clay Communications, a graphic design studio located near Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to graphic design, Jamie has been involved in computer programming, of one kind or another, since the age of 16 when he got his first Commodore 64 computer. At that time, he programmed in BASIC. He now has experience in several languages including Java, HTML, JavaScript, and Lua; however, the bulk of his game development is done using Gamesalad Creator. Jamie has published several games to the Apple App Store. He teaches game development online, has written articles about game development for the tuts+ network of websites, and runs his own website and YouTube channel with lots of information about Gamesalad Creator and game development in general.

Excellent book for beginners!!

I don't typically submit reviews, but this book was so well-written that I'd be remiss in my duty as a indie game designer if I didn't recommend it to anyone interested in Game Development. This book is a truly comprehensive guide, covering all aspects of mobile game design (with GameSalad) in great depth.

This book is a must for every aspiring game designer. Hands down, this is the best piece of literature on game design with GameSalad that I've read... Highly recommended!

In a new chapter, Cathy shares the previously untold story of her fourth Everest expedition, an attempt to climb a new route on the seldom visited and very risky east face of Everest. Storms, avalanches and crevasses all contributed to an expedition fraught with difficulty.

Its easy to pass judgment on Ms

There is such a renewed interest in Everest since the movie was released this past year. This book captures the inherent beauty, conditions and dangers involved in high altitude climbing. A fascinating read. The life and death decisions involved on the mountain are ones I hope I never have to face. Its easy to pass judgment on Ms. O'Dowd, but unless you were there you just don't know what you would do. I know I could never make such a climb but I am enraptured by the thrill of it and Cathy O'Dowd brings that thrill to life in this book. Well Done Ms. O'Dowd, Well Done!

The Ultimate Everest Adventure - a must have ebook

Cathy O'Dowd's book "Just for the Love of it" .The first lady to climb Mt Everest which was the ultimate climbing adventure. A book of incredible bravery, inspiration and sadness. The thrill of success mixed with love, comradeship, loss of dear friends and death. It is an incredible story by an incredible lady of an incredible adventure. If you like and admire true adventurers this is a must read,. Even if you have no interest in mountain climbing you will find this a very enjoyable book, well written, informative and a detailed description of one of earths great adventures.

Really great learning tool

This seems like the best possible way to learn a new language. Having all of the kids rhyming songs written down, with translations of all the words. This is super awesome. I don't think that this could teach the whole language, but I think as a supplement to classes or text books, this is the best thing. Songs and rhymes to sing, that is how our memories work, that is why people were able to remember epic poems, because of rhyme schemes and alliteration, mnemonics!

An AP Chinese teacher recommended Mrs. Gao's audio file link and her books. I ordered this book right the way. After I received the book, I taught a few rhymes (weather, food) to the different level students. Well received. Kids love to rhyme, the new words seem to be easier to get into their head. I will continue figuring out how to weave the rhymes and rhythm into individual lessons.

I was at Gao laoshi's presentation at ACTFL 2009. My colleagues and I were attracted by her innovative approach of teaching Chinese with "rhymes and rhythm". And almost everyone who knows her and her teaching approach all expect to see her books published. Finally, here they are!! :)

Time and content of the lessons always an issue for many teachers. If your goal is to have your students to enjoy learning Chinese in an effectively way, you should check out these books. "Rhymes & Rhythm" [for learning Chinese] can be used as supplementary material to our current textbook. I have book I & II. I am going to get next book which contains more cultural elements: like what you heard from the YouTube video above. I believe that will make my upper class (intermediate-mid and high students) learn language and culture in a fun way.

Besides, "Chinese Breeze" [learn with ease] is a well-structured textbook with student practice exercises. Gao laoshi includes what students should know about from each unit. No more pressure to a big volume of textbook and feel we need to rush the instructions. I like how she said, "It is all about giving students an unforgettable learning experience and fun memories to treasure for years to come." , "less is more" (hope we Chinese teachers will not always be caught up with so much to teach and students have so much to catch up) If we can use this fun and decent approach to help our beginner students have no fear of learning Chinese and be willing to explore more, that is truly accomplishment already!
