The hockey players in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series curse like...well...like hockey players. Also, there is a fair amount of sex in these books. If sex and cursing aren't your cup of tea, these books likely won't be, either.


You do not need to have read the Storm series to follow the Thunderbirds series, and vice versa. Each novel in the Thunderbirds series can stand alone, although your enjoyment will be enhanced by reading them in order.

Gripping with raw emotional situations, that will suck you in and hold you captive right to the very end!

I don't know why, but this story was so emotional for me. More so than any of Catherine Gayle's other books. The details were so painful to read about, but I DID get through it.... and I'm so happy I did. Razor was so brass in all the other books, but he sure redeemed himself in my eyes, that's for darn sure!!!

Tori was sent to the U.S by her father to go to study ballet and also so she could escape a fate no one should have to bear. Her father knew that that was the only way to keep her safe from the Russian Mob. They were after her and her mother so they could use them in a human trafficing ring they were running. She did escape, but in the process both of her parents were brutely killed. After her father was killed, her funds had had been depleteed, so she had to turn to doing things to survive that no one should ever have to resort to doing. After her dreams of becoming a ballerina came to a halt, so did her other means of survival. She heads off to Las Vegas to become a prostitue, but only because it was the only other way she knew of in order to make enough money to survive on. But the first person she runs into that night just happened to be, Razor, a man who took one look at her and instantly knew that there was more behind this woman's actions than really meets the eye.

Razor was so sweet and understanding through this whole thing; he just made me want to melt. And Tallie, I could really kiss that woman for not only not judging her, but also for standing up for her when Tori needed it the most. I also loved Razor's mom, what a woman!!! I loved how Razor kept describing his mother's all business kind of stances....just too funny. But the woman had real back bone to her, probably because she could relate to Tori and what she had been through just to survive. Her and Razor's personal talks on the phone about protection was totally hilarious, too. I also loved Dimas and the way her befriended Tori when so many others turn their back on her. I can't wait to read his story now, because I have a feeling there's really something very deep & dark going on with him, too.

As an added bonus, the early scenes in the book take place at the wedding of Babs and Katie, beloved characters from the Portland Storm series, and if you loved that series...then you'll definitley love this spin-off series!

Dark and disturbing, yet a beautiful love story

This is a really, really dark book. Sometimes hard to read, but I devoured it in a day nonetheless. I'm a fan of the Portland Storm series (of which this is a spinoff series), and I enjoyed the first book in this set. While that one was something of a straightforward sizzler, this one is sizzling yet disturbing, and I had to have faith in the author that Razor and Tori would eventually get their happy ending. Because boy did they deserve it!

Razor has appeared in the previous Portland Storm books as the best friend and bad influence on golden-boy hero Jamie Babcock. Razor is different from Jamie in many ways, but they share the same core of honor, loyalty and devotion that makes Jamie such an appealing hero. And while Razor is loud and boisterous among friends, with Tori he is gentle and kind, patient beyond measure, and a beautiful surprise as a hero. Tori is damaged and sad. I must be tremendously naive, because I was shocked, horrified, and a little bit puzzled as to why anyone would subject another person to the acts she's endured in her former profession. If there are people in the world who enjoy that sort of thing, I'm very glad not to know them. So while I found the descriptions of Tori's past disturbing, and a little too much for me at times, it was overall a beautifully crafted love story.

I enjoyed this book, I liked Tori, I loved Razor, and I've already pre-ordered the next book in the set.

Smoke Signals is the second book in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series and it is a raw and gritty tale that is also full of tenderness, understanding and hope.

What happens when you go to Vegas for your best friends wedding? You get married, right?! Well, in the case of Ray "Razor" Chambers, that's exactly what happens! Razor encounters a woman that he realizes is in way over her head and part of what he notices is a woman who needs help and compassion. Can he step in and give this woman the stability she needs?

Saying that Viktoriya Dubrovskaya has had a rough life is putting it mildly. Her father pushed her to leave her native Russia years ago for her own safety, but things have not gone as she had planned. She's been dealt a hand that forced her to use her body just to make ends meet and that has pushed her into pure survival mode. When she sets her sights on Razor in the casino in Vegas, she doesn't realize that this chance encounter is going to change her life in ways she could have never imagined.

After Razor marries Tori to help with her visa issues, he realizes that the scars she bears are deeper than he could have imagined. Can he break through the suit of armor she has armed herself with and can Tori let her past go in order to move forward?

I am so glad we were treated to Razor's story. I'm really not sure I could love Razor more than I do after finishing this book. We knew him as Babs' best friend, but he was so much more and this book was fantastic. Catherine Gayle is known for tackling issues in her books and this one is no different. There are serious issues dealt with in this book including trafficking, pornography and abuse, but they are handled with care and I applaud Catherine for continuing to focus on real-life issues.

Not as good as I expected

This book was a bit odd. It had a great story line and I felt like it could have been a fantastic, but it just didn't quite get there. It was brilliant in parts but it just never completely gelled with me. A bit of a disappointment as I have loved all the other books I have read by Lynda La Plante

Twisted. Don't bother

I have read so many Lynda La Plante novels and have enjoyed them all, but Twisted was so disappointing, it dragged on to the point of boredom, it is not often I have wanted to put a book down and not finish it, however I ploughed through the book but it certainly didn't get any better, with an even more ridiculous ending and to think I preordered and waited in anticipation

Excellent, classical textbook for ENT surgeons

This is a great textbook for residents/registrars in Otolaryngology and it provides an excellent way to review highpoints and pitfalls of any open H/N surgical procedure before going to the OR. The FESS chapter, however, is only 7 pages, and the sinonasal operating techniques described are more classical, so for more modern descriptions of eg sinonasal procedures it is recommended that you acquire a separate FESS manual (eg PJ Wormald).

I AM THAT is a spiritual classic by the Siddha Guru, Swami Muktananda. It clearly delineates the natural and spontaneous meditation of Hamsa, or the radiant life force flowing as the One breath breathing you. In traditional Buddhism, this simple awareness is known as anapanasati and is said to be the Buddha's final meditation before Awakening and the one he most highly recommended to his disciples.

HAMSA is dhyana (natural and spontaneous meditation) and jnana (direct recognition of Truth ). The Hamsa mantra balances the flow of life force so the Kundalini (the capacity of Consciousness to recognize Itself) safely awakens within us and unfolds so the jiva (apparent separate individual) recognizes its true nature as Shiva (the unborn formless Consciousness prior to and yet existing as everything). When this happens, parabhakti or unconditional love and devotion arises for all beings everywhere. As Baba Muktananda loved to point out, "Nothing exists that is not Shiva!" And that includes you! About the Author

Kiri Miller is the Manning Assistant Professor of Music at Brown University. She is the author of Traveling Home: Sacred Harp Singing and American Pluralism (2008). Her research stands at the intersection of ethnomusicology, popular music studies, and digital media studies. Her work has been supported by fellowships from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and the American Council of Learned Societies.

Maintain Your Biblical Greek Over The Summer!

I am a graduate student studying the Biblical languages. I just finished my first year of Biblical Greek using William D. Mounce's "Basics of Biblical Greek." Here's what to expect with this Summer Greek Reader:

It is designed to bridge the gap between Beginning Greek and Intermediate Greek by getting you into the Greek New Testament for about 10-15 minutes each day. Let's face it, with a dead language, one could forget a lot of what was learned (or crammed) in Beginning Greek! There are 12 weeks that have 6 passages each (about a paragraph in length). It is designed to do one passage per day. If there is a word that you haven't learned yet, there is a footnote that gives the definition. Each week also has vocabulary words with helpful memorization tricks. If you keep up with the vocabulary, you should know every word in the New Testament that occurs 20 times or more.

I've just finished my first week with the book and can already see how this resource is going to really help me maintain what I learned in my first year of Greek. By honing these skills and building vocabulary all summer, this resource will set the Greek learner up for success in intermediate Greek.

Also, it's a great price for such a helpful resource.

A good summer Greek refresher

I used this workbook in between first and second year Greek in order to stay sharp on my skills. The workbook offers some 24 passages to translate followed by verb parsings. The passages range from easy (1 John) to much more difficult (Gospel passages). The workbook is relatively straight forward and a great exercise for those looking to stay sharp on their translation and parsing skills.

Good reading practice

There are many Greek readers out there, but in my opinion in terms of level of difficulty and format, this is one of the more suitable ones for a student who has just completed an introductory course such as William Mounce's "Baics of Biblical Greek".

This reader presents daily passages for reading, parsing and translating. The readings are spread over 12 chapters, each chapter a block of text drawn from Matthew, Mark, John or 1 John consisting of 30 to 35 verses. One feature of this reader that sets it apart from others is that each chapter is divided into short, manageable daily passages of about 5 to 6 verses, so it is easy to incorporate the translation exercises into one's daily routine and develop the habit of reading some Greek everyday. (Other readers I have seen simply have large chapters that can appear rather overwhelming to the beginning student.) Ample space is provided on each page for the student to write down his translation. The texts chosen have relatively straightforward syntax, and new words are introduced in the footnotes. This, coupled with the literal translations of the passages provided at the end of the book, make this reader easy for the student to work through on his own. Unlike some other readers, this reader does not have the irritating feature of constantly referring the student to reference works which the student may not have access to.

Each chapter ends with a vocabulary list to learn in preparation for an intermediate course. In addition to definitions, many of the words also come with mnemonic devices, which is a nice touch.

Note that the purpose of this book is not to teach new grammar, but simply to maintain whatever has been learnt in an introductory course, so there are no detailed grammatical explanations, no new grammatical items to learn, no charts of verb paradigms, nor are there any exegetical discussions. It assumes at least one year of study of Greek, so it is not exactly for "beginners". The purpose of this book is simply to get the student to start reading in Greek entire texts for himself, and it does the job well.

About the Author

Hayder A. Rasheed is a professor and Thomas and Connie Paulson outstanding civil engineering faculty member at Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA. Previously, he was an assistant professor at Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois, USA. He holds a BS and MS from the University of Baghdad, Iraq, and a Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He is an ASCE fellow, registered professional engineer, author and co-author of 3 books and more than 50 refereed journal publications, and editorial board member of the International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics and the Open Journal of Composite Materials.

I am a structural engineer working in the New York City. I got the book this spring in order to better understand FRP design and construction in existing building renovation. This book is well-written, easy to follow and there are a lot of analysis and design examples in this book. This book is not only the state-of-the-art FRP academic researches, but also a good reference book for practitioners for practical FRP-based building renovation design.

I purchased this book for a course involving the external strengthening of reinforced concrete. The textbook does a great job of explaining the state of the practice, and explains the theory behind the strengthening of reinforced concrete with FRP well. Numerous analysis and design procedures and examples make it an excellent resource for practicing engineers.
